Our Approach

Your expectations of me: My goal is to provide you with high quality legal services that are responsive to your needs for reasonable fees. We strive to deal with your legal matter promptly and efficiently and to keep you informed of any developments as the matter progresses. Maintaining solicitor-client confidentiality is of utmost importance and all staff who provide services for my practice are fully aware of the obligation to protect the confidentiality of the information you entrust to us.

My expectations of you: In order to enable me to serve you, I need your full cooperation. I expect you to provide me with the information I need to fully understand your legal needs, to respond promptly to my requests for documents or information, to provide me with a retainer before legal services are provided when requested and to pay my accounts promptly.

On your first visit to my office, you will be asked to provide photo identification, such as a driver’s licence, passport or other similar document. It is a requirement of the Law Society of Upper Canada that I verify the identity of each client I act for. If I am acting for you on a mortgage transaction or certain other matters, I will also need to obtain a second identification document from you before I can complete the transaction.\

Conflicts of interest: As a lawyer I owe a duty to each of my clients and I cannot act on a matter if doing so would create a conflict with a client for whom I am currently or have previously acted. In some circumstances I may act for you and another person, such as your spouse, partner or another family member, under a joint retainer. For example, you may ask me to prepare wills or act on your real estate sale or purchase for you and your spouse. In these circumstances, both of you are my client and I owe an equal responsibility to both of you. Any information I receive from either of you cannot be kept confidential from the other client I am serving under the joint retainer. If a conflict develops between you and my other client, I may need to stop acting for either of you and refer both of you to other lawyers.
